The J. E. Adams Scholarship was established as a memorial tribute to J. E. Adams, professor of mathematics at Baldwin Univeristy from 1903 to 1913. He left Baldwin Wallace in 1913 to serve as the head of the Savings Audit Department at what was then the Cleveland Trust Company. The scholarship is to recognize a top junior mathematics student.
The Toni and Max Dehn Prize was established to honor the memory of internationally recognized mathematician, Dr. Max Dehn, and as a tribute to long time Berea resident, Mrs. Toni Dehn. The Fund was created by their family and friends to provide an annual mathematics prize to be awarded to a mathematics major for his/her superior academic achievement.
Anthony T. Lauria, Ph.D., was professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at BW from 1984 until his retirement in 2002. Patricia Kirby Lauria completed her studies as a continuing education student and received her BW degree in 1991. Both Anthony and Patricia highly value education and intend this scholarship fund to assist worthy students who have shown a high level of interest and skill in the field of Computer Science or Information Systems. The award is for a sophomore or junior student with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, majoring in Computer Science or Information Systems.
The Charles and Elsie Little Scholarship was established by their son, Dr. Richard Little, professor of mathematics at Baldwin Wallace University, as a memorial in honor of Dr. Little's parents. The scholarship is to recognize student academic achievement in mathematics and computer science, good academic standing at the university, contribution to the department and the university in activities that reflect citizenship and leadership, and seniors that are accepted into graduate programs in mathematics, computer science or a closely related discipline. Additional preferences are made for incoming freshman who, as a high school senior, placed in the top 200 students in Ohio on either the ASHME or OCTM examinations.
The Dr. E. S. Loomis Mathematics Prize is awarded annually to a sophomore or junior showing high proficiency in mathematics.
The Lubrizol Mathematics Award is funded by the Lubrizol Foundation to assist and recognize a deserving mathematics major.
The Lubrizol Computing Award is funded by the Lubrizol Foundation to assist and recognize a deserving student pursuing one of the computing majors.
The Outstanding Computing Student Award was established in 2012. It is supported by friends and family of Kenneth Weiss Jr. who served as an Adjunct Professor from 1972 till his death in 2010. In addition, the BW ACM Chapter makes regular donations to the fund. This award recognizes overall excellence of a computing major.
The Outstanding Senior Awards were established in 2013 to annually recognize the outstanding graduating student in each of the computing majors.
Since the mid 1970's, Chris Sullivan served as a leader in the administrative use of comuters at BW and as adjunct faculty member in computers and astronomy. To honor his grandparents, he provided annual prizes for BW student who demonstrate excellence in general academic work and make significant use of computing to enhance classroom experience.
Robert E. Schlea joined the faculty of Baldwin-Wallace College as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics in 1957. In 1970, Professor Schlea received the Strosacher Award for outstanding teaching at Baldwin Wallace. The Robert Schlea Mathematics Scholarship was established by friends and colleagues to honor Robert Schlea. It is generally awarded to an incoming student to the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and is based on performance on standaardized tests, overall academic standing in the student's high school class, and involvement in extra curricular activities that demonstrate a commitment to mathematics.
