3-D Art Gallery "Things & Me" Postcards Vases

Developed For: 2-D Art Class Completed In: 2 weeks
Technologies: Photoshop CS Website Link: -----

This was the first assignment in our 2-D Imaging class which taught us how to use and become familiar with Adobe Photoshop. The overall goal of the project was to incorporate a picture of our face into a piece of artwork along with other items that described myself to make it look like the artist created a painting of me. The full details of the assignment can be viewed in this word document.

After looking around the internet at a lot of pictures, I finally decided on Paul Cezannes's portrait of Gustave Geffroy as the picture I would use for the project. I chose this Impressionistic painting because I knew it would be a challenge to get my face and other items to look like they were painted in the painting due to the loose brushstrokes. But I knew if I worked hard at it, the end product would be one of the better projects in the class.

Now came the hard part, getting my face to blend into the painting. The professor went around with his digital camera and took pictures of each of us so that out face was tilted the same way as in the painting. After that, it was up to us to make it look like it belonged in the painting. As you can see below, it took a lot of time to blend my face into the painting.

How I altered my face in Photoshop

Altering My Face In Photoshop

1Original picture before it was edited
2Erasing everything but my face so it fit with the painting
3Applying 'Artistic-Paint Dubs' filter and adjusting Hue & Saturation
4Using the Dodge and Burn tool to lighten/darken pieces of my face
5More use of the Dodge/Burn tool and adjusting the Hue/Saturation

Since I knew what filters to apply on my face and how to adjust the Hue and Saturation to match the painting, it was just a matter of time until my project would be complete. I just had to add other items of interest to the painting. I ended up adding 6 items to the painting which made the project complete. I hope you can find them all! Below are more pictures of the project with the last picture showing where all the items are located.
