| David Brown was born c. 1857. His family was enumerated in the 1860 census; Richard Brown was from England and was an engineer for the quarries, which was very dangerous work (Holzworth). The family was enumerated in the 1870 census, Richard giving his occupation as "Q Engine". They were enumerated in the 1880 census, Richard now a farmer; siblings Elizabeth, Mary, George, and William were still alive. David was buried c. 13 September 1858; he was aged 1 year, 4 months and 8 days. There were no local newspapers yet to publish an obituary or death report. Richard Brown bought lot 46 1/2; Wm. Nokes bought the other half. David Brown's tombstone was recorded on the 1904 and 1934 inscription lists: "David, son of R. & E. Brown, died Sep. 13, 1838 [sic], ae 1 y". In 1934 the stone was found near Besch, Frey, and Wight, which were in 2007 found to be in the vicinity of lot 46. Very probably, David's marker is one of two broken/illegible stones at the base of a red pine near the back of the cemetery. One of the stones is a white marble base for a tablet, with an unrelated MCF (Myron C. Furlong) footstone leaning against the tree. The other is a narrow gray limestone tablet, broken, with some almost legible inscription near break. |
