| Hannah was born in New York c. 1795. She was enumerated in Middleburg Twp in 1860, at age 65, with her husband, Henry, also age 65. Berea's list of burials says "the wife of Carman" was buried on 11 May 1863, but lists her age as 29--perhaps a typo for 69? She was the mother of prominent Berea citizen Wm. Carman (see his entry). The 1904 grave inscriptions for Hannah Carman read, "Hannah, wife of Henry, d May 10, 1863 ae 68." The Cuyahoga County Cemetery Inscriptions state, "Hannah, his wife, died May 8, 1863, age 63." It also states, "Hannah, wife of Henry Carman, died May 10, 1863, age 63 (single stone)." Hannah Carman had a marble tablet on base tombstone. It was 38 1/2 inches high, 28 1/4 inches wide, and 13 inches thick. The headstone was in sound condition, but was covered in moss and lichen. The severity of its condition was a 2 (1 being the least and 5 being the most). The causes for the severity are settling, weathering, and vegetation. In 2009, the headstone was leveled and cleaned with D-2. D-2, water, and sand & gravel (for footing) were used for these repairs. The grave marker was inscribed. |
