| George Deming was enumerated in the 1850 census, age 25, born in CT, a stone cutter. Wife and two children also buried in same cemetery, as well as many members of his in-laws, the Crane family. The city's "List" for 1857 reads "Jan. 20 Geo. Deming" The 1904 transcription read: "Geo. Deming b. Apr 7, 1824, d. Jan. 20 1857, Mary Abigail, b. Oct. 26, 1855, d. Sept 21, 1857, Origen Leon, b. Dec 26, 1852, d. Oct 10, 1853, children of Geo. and Mary J. Deming" 1934 transcription read only "George Deming, died Apr 7, 1821, ageā¦(stone down and covered by blackberry vine)" His death was too early to be mentioned in Berea newspapers. There is no marriage license recorded in Cuyahoga Cty. Two deeds exist, however one of the deeds is from 1858; a year after George's death. His widowed wife remarried William Scrivens in 1858 and had another daughter, Cora Scrivens, in 1866, then died in 1867 and was buried next to George Deming and her children (R7 G8, lot 17). See entry for Mary Jane Crane Scrivens for more information. |
