comments
His grandparents and parents were among the first settlers of Middleburg Twp. There are property deeds proving their residence as early as 1838 (Daniel Fairchild deed, 28 Aug 1838). Andrew Fairchild, Henry's father, was their youngest son (Labaj). He lost 4 of his six children to childhood illnesses, including Charles, one of two twin boys who died within months of each other (City's list of burials). The City of Berea recorded in 1865 "Oct. 23 Charles Fairchild 4 mo." In 1904, his tombstone was transcribed. It is unclear whether he shared a stone with his father and siblings: "A. J Fairchild, died Aug 5, 1866, age 33 yrs, Charles born June 29, 1858, died Oct 16, 1858, Freddie born June 29, 1858, died Aug 11, 1858, Henry B born Feb 16, 1863, died Nov 5, 1865, and Nellie, born Nov 27, 1864, died Sep 28, 1865, children of A. J. and Matilda Fairchild." By 1934, the stone was missing, and findagrave.com lists no other location for their burials.
